Definition and Characteristics
Glass fiber cloth is a kind of composite material made of glass fiber as raw material by weaving or non-woven fabric, which has excellent physical properties, such as high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance, tensile resistance and so on. It is commonly used in construction, automobile, ship, aviation field and so on. Glass fiber cloth can be divided into plain, twill, non-woven and other types according to the fiber weave.
Mesh cloth, on the other hand, is made of glass fibers or other synthetic materials woven into a grid, the shape of which is square or rectangular, with excellent strength, corrosion resistance and other properties, and is often used to strengthen the concrete and other underlying building materials.
Differences and application scenarios
Although glass fiber cloth and mesh cloth are both materials related to glass fiber, but they are still different in use.
1. Different uses
Glass fiber cloth is mainly used to strengthen the material’s tensile, shear and other properties, can be used for flooring, walls, ceilings and other building surfaces, can also be used in automobiles, aviation and other fields of the body, wings and other structural enhancement. And mesh cloth is mainly used to enhance the strength and stability of concrete, bricks and other underlying building materials.
2. Different structure
Glass fiber cloth is interwoven by fibers in both warp and weft directions, with flatness and uniform distribution of each weaving point. On the other hand, mesh cloth is woven by fibers in both horizontal and vertical directions, showing a square or rectangular shape.
3. Different strength
Due to its different structure, glass fiber cloth generally has higher strength and tensile properties, can be used for the overall strengthening of the material. Grid cloth is relatively low strength, more role is to increase the stability of the ground layer and load-bearing capacity.
To sum up, although the glass fiber cloth and mesh cloth have the same origin and raw materials, but their uses and characteristics are different, the use should be based on the specific scene and the need to choose the appropriate material.
