This flight marked a major development for Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation, which is part of Rostec Holdings.
The test flight took off from the airport of the Irkutsk Aviation Plant of the United Aircraft Corporation Irkut. The flight went smoothly.
Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov told reporters:
“So far, composite wings have been manufactured for two aircraft and a third set is being manufactured. We plan to receive a type certificate for composite wings made of Russian materials in the second half of 2022.”
The wing console and central part of the MC-21-300 aircraft are manufactured by AeroComposite-Ulyanovsk. In the production of the wing, vacuum infusion technology was used, which was patented in Russia.
The head of Rostec Sergey Chemezov said:
“The share of composite materials in the MS-21 design is about 40%, which is a record number for medium-range aircraft. The use of durable and lightweight composite materials allows the manufacture of wings with unique aerodynamic characteristics that cannot be achieved with metal wings. become possible.
Improved aerodynamics make it possible to expand the width of the MC-21 fuselage and the cabin, which brings new advantages in terms of passenger comfort. This is the world’s first medium-range aircraft to apply such a solution. “
At present, the certification of the MC-21-300 aircraft is nearing completion, and it is planned to begin delivery to airlines in 2022. At the same time, the MS-21-310 aircraft equipped with the new Russian PD-14 engine is undergoing flight testing.
