The reusability of carbon fibers is closely linked to the production of organic sheets from recycled high-performance fibers, and at the level of high-performance materials, such devices are only economical in closed technological process chains and should have High repeatability and productivity. One such production system was developed in the research project Selvliespro (self-controlled nonwoven production) within the Futuretex network.

The project’s researchers focus on intelligent maintenance, self-learning manufacturing systems for process control, and human-machine interaction. An Industry 4.0 approach has also been integrated for this purpose. A particular challenge of this continuously operating manufacturing facility is that the process steps are highly interdependent not only in time but also in parameters.
The researchers solved this challenge by developing a database that uses a unified machine interface and provides data continuously. This forms the basis of cyber-physical production systems (CPPS). Cyber-physical systems are a core element of Industry 4.0, describing the dynamic networking of the physical world—specific production plants—and virtual images—cyberspace.
This virtual image continuously provides various machine, operational or environmental data from which optimized strategies are calculated. Such CPPS has the potential to interface with other systems in the production environment, ensure active process monitoring and control, and have predictive capabilities on a data-based approach.
